Mountainsmith Brings it Back Home with Limited Edition Colorado-Made Tyrol Packs

December 15, 2016

Golden, CO — Mountainsmith—craftsmen of iconic backcountry equipment and recreational outdoor gear—has announced the debut of their limited edition Tyrol pack. The new Tyrol packs are handmade in Boulder, CO from 100% up-cycled material, and each one is numbered and marked with the initials of the person who built it. The Tyrol is now available on the Mountainsmith website for a limited time.

For this project, Mountainsmith collaborated with Ron Simonds of Boulder Mountain Repair, who helped design the original Tyrol pack with Mountainsmith founder Patrick Smith. The new Tyrol pack, a classic early 1990’s design, is made in Boulder, CO, just down the road from Mountainsmith’s headquarters. These packs will only be produced in runs of 20 to 30 at a time, depending on what repurposed materials are available.

A classic 1990s design, the limited edition Tyrol is hand-built in our home state of Colorado using 100% up-cycled material. Each pack is numbered and marked with the initials of the person who built it, making each Tyrol pack a unique piece of our pack family -Mountainsmith

“The launch of these limited edition Tyrol packs is exciting on a number of levels,” says Jay Getzel, President of Mountainsmith. “We have successfully returned to our roots and brought a component of our USA manufacturing projects back to our home state of Colorado. This, coupled with our partnership with Boulder Mountain Repair is significant. With the help of Mountainsmith design manager Luke Boldman, Ron, and his right-hand man Sam Goodhue, we were able to recreate original designs and utilize repurposed material to land on some truly unique, limited edition versions of the original pack.  We look forward to future design and development projects and the opportunity to turn out special offerings of this nature in the seasons to come.”

These small-batch Tyrol packs are the culmination of Mountainsmith’s latest efforts to revive and update the brand’s most iconic designs, and to bring aspects of production back to their home state. Mountainsmith is thrilled to offer to consumers a low-impact product that is designed and created in Colorado, especially one with such significant ties to the brand’s history.
