Mountainsmith Zerk 40 Awarded Best Fast and Light Pack From The Trek

February 15, 2022

Boulder, CO (February 2022)/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Mountainsmith, the Colorado-based company that has spent more than 40 years as a leading gear manufacturer specializing in durable goods for hiking and camping, announced today that its Zerk 40 has won best fast and light pack from The Trek, the latest accolade for one of Mountainsmith’s most innovative new packs.

Released in 2021 as part of the company’s Spring/Summer 2021 line, the Zerk 40 combines the expertise of an elite thru-hiker with the most advanced material technology to-date. Inspired by ultra-running, backpacking, and fast-packing, it’s built to go farther while minimizing stress on the body. The Zerk is the latest line in Mountainsmith’s celebrated backpacks along with the Scream, Apex, Mayhem and Clear Creek series.

The Zerk 40 (right) is unique in the way that it offers a completely new fit and feel for those spending many hours on the trail. This is in part due to the pack’s design inspiration coming from running vests, which helps the Zerk 40 disperse weight across hikers chests while also giving them support with burly shoulder straps.

“Zerk users have really come to love the creature comforts this pack offers. From plush shoulder straps that allow you to carry this pack for long miles, to the great organization options that keep your items sorted,” said Mountainsmith General Manager Jonathan McFarland. “Thru hikers appreciate these details and that the pack will reach the end of a thru hike intact and with many opportunities for future miles ahead”

The Zerk 40 has also previously been awarded the Editors’ Choice Award in 2020 from Backpacker Magazine, and the new 2021 award-winning model features upgrades that include 100% recycled 210d Extreema nylon and an updated, abrasion-resistant mesh in the exterior pockets.

“The Zerk occupies a part of our product offering that allows backpackers and hikers an option to lighten up their load without sacrificing comfort, durability or features and allow them to tackle their adventure with confidence,” McFarland said. We see this pack being perfect on backpacking trails as well as short day hikes or peak bagging adventures.”
