MSR® Introduces Ultralight, Thru-Hiker Mesh House Shelter for Soloists

August 2, 2018

New minimalist shelter offers customizable protection for long-distance backpackers

SEATTLE, Wash. (August 2, 2018) — Seattle-based Mountain Safety Research® (MSR®), introduces the Thru-Hiker Mesh House 1, the new lightweight long-distance backpacking shelter for minimalist soloist travelers. Ultralight micromesh fabric offers maximum moisture control, ventilation and bug resistance for long-distance backpackers seeking lighter pack weights.

“The Thru-Hiker Mesh House 1 is ultralight, adaptable, and packable shelter designed for long distance backpacking,” says Terry Breaux, tents and shelter category manager at MSR. “Combined with our Thru-Hiker 70 or 100 Wing, sold separately, the shelters are a flexible system that backpackers can customize to suit the level of protection needed on their trip.”

Using trekking poles, accessory poles or trees to support the shelter, the Thru-Hiker Mesh House 1 allows backpackers to use trekking poles, accessory poles or trees to support the shelter, reducing the weight that traditional shelter poles would add. Backpackers have the option to pair their shelter with the MSR Thru-Hiker 70 or 100 Wing for protection from wind and rain, sold separately.

The Ultimate Shelter for Long-Distance, Soloist Backpackers

At 0.28 kg (10 oz), the Thru-Hiker Mesh House 1 won’t occupy much space or add much weight to a backpacker’s carrying load. Its 1.86 sq m (20 sq ft) floor and vestibule area allow for plenty of comfort after a long day’s trek, and its livable volume of 651 L (23 cu ft) provides ample head room with an interior peak height of 0.96 m (38 in). Use the Mesh House on its own for maximum ventilation, or pair the shelter with the Thru-Hiker 70 or 100 Wing, sold separately, for added wind and rain protection.

The new Thru-Hiker Mesh House 1 is a trustworthy option for the no-nonsense backpacker who seeks only what she needs and nothing else, allowing her to move faster and farther in the backcountry. MSRP: $149.95
