MSR® Updated Hubba Hubba™ NX Tent Wins ISPO Gold Award

July 23, 2019

New Thru-Link™ In-Link Microfilter also takes home award from Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

SEATTLE, Wash. (July 23, 2019)Mountain Safety Research (MSR®), the high-performance outdoor equipment brand, is honored to receive two awards last month, from ISPO and BestProducts.com, for updates to one of their most popular products, the Hubba HubbaNX tent, and for their new in-line Microfilter, the Thru-Link, which was recently debuted at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Denver, Colo.

The Hubba HubbaNX tent was given a Gold awarded in the Tent category at Europe’s largest outdoor trade show, OutDoor by ISPO, meaning it was the best product in its category. The Outstanding Outdoor awards are presented annually for the most extraordinary products of the outdoor industry. MSR was given this award at the Outstanding Outdoor ceremony on Sunday, June 30.

According to the judges, “With the new MSR Hubba HubbaNX, a very good product has become even better. Waterproofing has been improved: the tent has a new Xtreme Shield Waterproof coating, which is supposed to withstand water three times as long as the materials previously used. A three-layer polyurethane coating is applied to the inside of the outer tent. An additional waterproof silicone coating is used on the outside. Also new are the seams with swellable yarn. They seal the tent additionally and increase the durability since no more tape is necessary. For the European market, MSR has introduced Easton Syclone tent poles made of composite material for the first time. They provide high stability and are at the same time very light.”

The Thru-LinkMicrofilter received a Best of Outdoor Retailer 2019 award in the Backpacking category. The Microfilter was given this award because it, “turns your existing water bladder into its own filtration system. Simply fill your reservoir with unfiltered water from a stream or lake, connect the Thru-Link™ between the reservoir and tubing, and drink! It instantly makes water potable, minimizing the extra weight and space that most filters require in your pack, and taking the work out of filtering water,” said Andrew Bettlach, contributing editor for BestProducts.com in the outdoor and fitness categories. Bestproducts.com was started in 2015 by Hearst Magazines and is a digital-only site with over 64,000 product reviews to-date.

Proven by the U.S. Military for more than a decade, the new Thru-Link™ Microfilter combines the effectiveness, durability, and speed that minimalists and thru-hikers require in the backcountry. The Thru-Link™ meets NSF Protocol P231 for the removal of bacteria and protozoa. Its two-stage filtration chamber includes fast-flow hollow fiber for the removal of pathogens, particulates, and microplastics, and activated carbon that reduces chemicals, tastes and odors. Additionally, ultrasonic welded seams and a robust housing contribute to the durability of the filter. Finally, like all MSR filters, the Thru-Link™ is tested by MSR’s on-site, world-class water research laboratory at the company’s Seattle factory headquarters.

The Hubba HubbaNX tent can be found at msrgear.com and the Thru-Link™ In-Line Microfilter will become available February 2020. The filter will also be available exclusively at REI starting this October.
