Oboz Footwear introduces the Cottonwood, its most sustainable collection to date

February 15, 2024

New collection made with sustainably preferred materials available February 15.

Bozeman, Mont. (February 15, 2024)/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – While Oboz, the ‘True to the Trail’ outdoor footwear brand based in Bozeman, MT, has been integrating environmentally preferred materials into its shoes for years, its new Cottonwood collection sets a new standard for the brand. The Cottonwood Collection are Oboz’s most responsibly sourced hikers to date, featuring recycled and bio-based materials as well as responsibly sourced leathers and trims.

“There are so many elements that go into the production of footwear and with the Cottonwood we’ve worked to create a new level of sustainability while retaining the durability, comfort, and fit our customers expect of us,” said Abigail Cook, Oboz Marketing and ESG Manager. “While we celebrate the Cottonwood’s launch, it is only a step, though a large one, towards making the most earth friendly shoes we can.”

The development and launch of the Cottonwood Collection is a reflection of Oboz joining the B Corp movement. In 2023, Oboz achieved B Corp Certification which helps businesses act as a force for good. Oboz has identified community, climate, and circularity as areas of focus for it to execute positive change in the world. Climate and circularity relate directly to the Cottonwood, as Oboz has focused on material choices and science-aligned targets and emission reductions within its operations and value chain in their development as well as across Oboz complete range of footwear.

The Cottonwood is a capable waterproof hiker offered in men’s and women’s, low ($155) and mid ($165), geared toward the adventurer who values getting outdoors as much as protecting it for future generations.

Each style features ISA LITE full-grain nubuck leather uppers. ISA LITE (Low Impact To the Environment) leathers are produced in facilities and via a process where the amount of chemicals, water and energy used is significantly reduced. Recent evaluations of the system has shown that a square foot of LITE leather consumes 65% less energy and water when compared to Bronze rate leathers.

The shoes feature an upper with abrasion-resistant, breathable mesh, laces, lining and webbing all made from 100% recycled polyester.

The Cottonwood’s bottom package features Oboz ACT Eco midsole, a single density midsole made with bio-EVA that consists of 30% sugarcane. Its Trail Tread outsole, which provides superior traction and durability, is made with 15% regrind rubber.

Oboz has also simultaneously improved the waterproofness and breathability of its B-DRY system, while introducing more environmentally friendly materials. The lining of the Oboz B-DRY system now includes 50% recycled polyester and 25% of the membrane is from post-industrial waste. Additionally, its DWR (durable water repellent) finish is PFC-Free.

The Cottonwood Collection is available now at Obozfootwear.com and Oboz retailers worldwide.
