ORTOVOX creates new position to accommodate growth in mountain wear

LONGMONT, CO – ORTOVOX, a world leader in wool-based mountain wear since 1988, announced the hire of Greg Mears to fill a new position necessitated by three consecutive years of strong growth in its U.S. mountain wear sales.

ORTOVOX mountain wear, a staple in the high peaks of the Alps and Pyrenees, is a newly emerging force in the U.S. The mountain wear line has expanded from two dealers in 2014 to more than 35 dealers heading into 2018. In the newly created position of sales assistant, Mears will support dealers and reps with the goal of providing outstanding dealer service and sustaining the brand’s momentum.

A 17-year veteran of the outdoor industry with roots in specialty outdoor retail, Mears has worked on the front lines as a ski tech, sales associate, ski buyer and general manager. He has served as general manager and lead buyer for Mountain Sports and most recently an account manager for Active Interest Media in its outdoor guide marketing program.

“Greg is going to provide key support to a line that’s seen double- or triple-digit growth over the past three seasons,” said ORTOVOX Brand Manager Tom Mason. “He knows his way around the industry and the backcountry, and I’m confident that he’ll be successful in this new role.”

Mears has over 20 years of experience skiing the mountains of Canada, Alaska, the Teton and Wasatch Ranges and the Colorado Rockies. Mears is certified in PSIA Nordic Downhill (telemark), AIARE Level II Avalanche and served as president of the board of Colorado’s Backcountry Snowsports Alliance. When he’s not skiing, Mears enjoys mountain and road biking, river running, surfing, SUP’ing, adVANture traveling or playing extreme backcountry bocci ball.
