Ridge Merino launches Summer 2019 collection

June 26, 2019

New Merino Wool Clothing Includes Lightweight Tanks, Tees and Sun Hoodies With Natural Sun Protection

Mammoth Lakes, Calif. (June 26, 2019) Ridge Merino®, makers of high-quality Merino wool clothing, released its 2019 summer collection featuring lightweight apparel with natural sun protection.

The new summer lineup includes tanks, tees and sun hoodies, all featuring the company’s (m)Force™ technology — a nylon core-spun Merino wool — which enhances the strength and durability of the lightweight fabric’s natural performance. In addition, the new Merino wool clothing focuses on protecting skin against harsh ultraviolet (UV) rays with a UV protection factor (UPF) rating of 25+. Similar to a sun protection factor (SPF) rating for sunscreen, a UPF rating gauges a fabric’s effectiveness against both UVA and UVB light.

Both UPF and SPF are proven standards used to measure the level of skin protection from sunburn and other UV damage. However, a recent clinical trial discovered that several sunscreens with SPF contain non-biodegradable ingredients and harmful chemicals that may enter the bloodstream at potentially unsafe levels.

“Many people are seeking alternatives to sunscreen in light of new information suggesting negative effects associated with their use,” said Jeff Russell, founder of Ridge Merino. “Studies show that wearing clothing that incorporates natural UV protection can offer defense against harmful UV rays and reduce the amount of sunscreen needed by up to 90 percent. If your outfit has a UPF rating, there’s no need to apply sunscreen on those areas of the body.”

In addition to natural sun protection, Merino wool is an essential four-season staple with its ability to wick sweat from the skin, resist odors, breathe naturally and regulate body temperature all year round.

The new 2019 Summer Ridge Merino Wool Clothing Lineup Includes:

  • Men’s & Women’s Solstice Hoodie— Soft and extremely lightweight, the Ridge Merino Solstice Hoodie is the perfect layer for long days spent in the sun. Designed in collaboration with Ridge high-elevation athletes, the comfortable, relaxed Merino wool hoodie covers the skin and offers UPF 25+. Discreet thumb holes keep the sleeves in place, and the loose-fitting hood fits perfectly over a hat or a ponytail.
