Royal Robbins Introduces Fluorocarbon-free Outerwear for Fall 2017

January 5, 2017

Outerwear will be 100% fluorocarbon-free by Spring 2018

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (January 5, 2017) —Royal Robbins’ Fall 2017 line of outerwear will feature a 100% non-fluorinated DWR treatment: an eco-friendly upgrade with the same waterproof performance features of its predecessor.

The heritage apparel brand is in the midst of eliminating all fluorocarbon-based DWR treatments throughout the entire company to combat the negative environmental effects of the toxic by-products that persist in the environment long after the manufacturing process. The outerwear collection, dubbed “Temperate Wear”, is designed for the milder climates of today with the functionality and versatility to go from town to trail.

“Environmental safekeeping is one of our core values and at the very foundation of our brand’s heritage,” said Michael Millenacker, CEO of Royal Robbins. “We are committed to Royal and Liz Robbins’ original vision and are taking steps to be 100 percent fluorocarbon-free by Spring 2018.”

Royal Robbins’ commitment to environmental and social responsibility dates back to before the brand’s birth in the Yosemite Valley in 1968, when Royal himself made the first major clean climbing ascent in the United States on the Nutcracker route. Today, Royal Robbins is doubling down on its founder’s original commitment to environmental preservation by eliminating harmful fluorinated DWR treatments, partnering with bluesign system and adhering to its detailed Code of Conduct.

Royal Robbins’ new, non-fluorinated DWR treatment is available in six styles. All jackets feature the heritage brand’s “Go Everywhere” aesthetic that’s embedded with key performance features that allow you to easily transition from the office to the trail.
