Setton Pistachio Awards Scholarships to Employees’ College-Bound Children

August 16, 2018

(Terra Bella, CA) —Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc., the nation’s second largest pistachio grower and processor based in California’s Central Valley, awarded five students a $5,000 scholarship to the 4-year college of their choice as part of their annual College Encouragement Program.

The Setton family believes strongly in the value of education and the opportunities it creates. As part of their ongoing initiative to inspire growth within their community, the College Encouragement Program offers students the knowledge essential to pursuing their dreams.

“We are thrilled to award scholarships to this group of deserving students,” said Setton Farms COO Mia Cohen. “We want to be sure that these students are given every chance to succeed.”

To generate enthusiasm for this important step in their lives, applicants were taken on a trip to the University of California in Los Angeles. A Setton team member (and UCLA alumni) led a tour of the campus and local area, creating excitement for the college experience and expanding student’s horizons beyond the Central Valley.

In order to receive the College Encouragement Program scholarship, the students’ parent or guardian must be employed by Setton Farms. In addition, the student must have graduated from high school and be enrolled in an accredited 4-year university as a full time student that same year.

Scholarship winners are pursuing majors in a variety of fields such as Criminal Justice, Wildlife Conservation & Management, Political Science and Marine Biology, amongst others. Additionally, a paid summer internship is made available within the Setton organization in an area that is relevant to their degree.
