Sierra Designs Goes Back to Its Roots for Spring ’18 Pack Line

June 29, 2017

New heritage line is a nod to the past with modern style & functionality

June 29, 2017 – Boulder, CO – The team at Sierra Designs didn’t have to look far for inspiration to craft its newest line of backpacks. The Spring ’18 pack styles are recreations of three iconic designs found in the brand’s 1973 product catalog, updated with modern materials and features. This heritage line is a throwback to a different era that feels entirely modern at the same time.

“Straight Out of Oakland!” Says Sierra Designs senior director Stephen Barnes, “Sierra Designs founders Bob (Swanson) and George (Marks) would always take their new products out on a test trip that often became the photo shoot for the upcoming sales catalog. In looking through old catalogs, we came across images of the original day packs when they launched in 1973 when Sierra Designs was based in Oakland, and we all latched on to the idea of updating the classic pack styles with modern materials and functionality.”

The largest of the heritage packs, the Summit offers a 28L capacity with side water bottle pockets and a zippered front stash pocket. Constructed of durable 300D polyester fabric to keep it tough on the outside, it also includes a padded 3-D laptop sleeve to protect your valuable tech on the inside (compatible with 17” laptops or tablets). A zippered storage pocket offers internal organization along with a key fob, and the brushed suede base provides additional durability and protection. MSRP: $79.95

Whether you’re heading to work, class or the trail, the Daytripper is the perfect size for daily pack needs. Offering 25L of capacity, the Daytripper is constructed of durable 300D polyester with a brushed suede base. A zippered front storage pocket includes internal organization and a key fob, and a padded 3-D laptop sleeve is compatible with 15” laptops or tablets. A padded airmesh back panel and shoulder straps add comfort and ventilation for everyday wear. MSRP: $64.95

The Serendipity is a sleek and stylish reinvention of an old Sierra Designs favorite. This pack offers a capacity of 20L and weighs just 15oz. Like the Summit and Daytripper, the Serendipity is constructed of durable 300D polyester fabric, and includes a zippered front stash pocket with internal organization and a key fob. Its padded laptop sleeve is compatible with a 15” laptop or tablet, and the back panel and shoulder straps are made from a padded airmesh. MSRP: $49.95

The new heritage packs will be on display at Summer Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City at the Sierra Designs booth, #23017. For more information, contact Suzanne Hermann at suzanne@darbycommunications.com.
