Darn Tough Vermont® Celebrates 40 Years of Their Mill

Northfield, VT. (October 22, 2018) – Home to the industry leader, Darn Tough Vermont, Cabot Hosiery Mill honored their 40 years of dedication to the Northfield community and to outfitting feet with premium socks worldwide on October 18, 2018. Having not only survived, but rather thrived by keeping textile manufacturing in small town Vermont following the mass exodus of many manufacturers to overseas factories, Cabot Hosiery Mill has been a cornerstone of the town and region.  Employing nearly 300 hard-working residents and considering the population of Northfield is just shy of 3000, Darn Tough has become a leading example that American manufacturing is alive and well in the heart of Vermont; the sock capital of the world.

Having won the battle to succeed and currently exceeding expectations in American made sock making, the mill continues to hum while maintaining family ownership, dedication to local business, and keeping their eyes locked on the prize.

“We started Darn Tough 14 years ago, and seeing this mill in its height of production today is beyond rewarding,” said Ric Cabot, Darn Tough Vermont President, CEO and Founder. “What we’re doing here is what we’ve always done; working hard, supporting our community, and demonstrating that businesses can grow and prosper without leaving the state of Vermont or having to manufacture elsewhere.  We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built and the dedication of our employees who bring their passion every day, and their contribution to making this success story a reality.”

“It takes a high level of commitment and determination to build a brand like Darn Tough and propel a production facility like this mill to where it is today,” said Marc Cabot, Cabot Hosiery Mills Founder and Co-Owner.  “That level of grit and persistence has been handed down through three generations of Cabots, and today clearly influences the tenacity and dedication seen by our Darn Tough family.  From the mill, to our office employees and sales force to our growing legions of brand fanatics, we’re seeing how loyalty truly pays off.”

Cabot Hosiery Mill and Darn Tough Vermont are setting the standard for US manufacturing and transforming a small hometown. There is no settling or slowing down for both the mill and brand.  After 40 years, they continue to make the world’s best and toughest socks out there.
