Taiga Coolers Unveils First Sustainably-Built, Hard-Sided Cooler

October 6, 2020

Plant-based material utilized to reduce fossil fuel and carbon consumption

MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 6, 2020)– Taiga Coolers, the American-made, veteran-owned brand known for crafting customizable, high-performance coolers, is proud to officially announce the launch of its sustainably-built cooler, the Taiga Terra. Developed with a plant-based polymer, the Taiga Terra cooler is the first of its kind on the market, and is the second collection of hard-sidedcoolers offered by Taiga, with the Taiga Original Collection having launched the brand in 2014.

In building the first plant-based, hard-sided cooler, the Texan brand focused on how to utilize a replacement for fossil fuel plastics while ensuring performance and toughness in it’s coolers. Working with a Boulder, Colo-based vendor, Taiga chose a custom variation of a hemp propylene that would work well in it’s patented injection molding process, provide durability comparable to conventional plastics, and allow an easy transition for customers to a more sustainable option.

“As a brand founded on innovation, finding sustainable solutions is a natural next step for us,” said Taiga Founder John Hohenshelt. “In line with our patented technology for customization and online cooler personalization, we wanted to give our consumers more options including the ability to invest in an eco-friendly, USA-made product. We are breaking down the boundaries of how to engineer a rugged, high-performance cooler that doesn’t negatively impact the environment we often place our coolers in, from surf to turf and everywhere in between. We are proud to say that the Taiga Terra is moving our brand and our consumers in a direction towards mindful stewardship of our environments.”

Made with 3/16” thick hemp-filled polypropylene walls, the Taiga Terra is unlike any other specialized cooler available in the market. It is constructed with a nearly identical technical design as the Taiga Original cooler line including 2-inch thick foam-filled walls, a 3-inch thick lid with R5 insulation, UV stabilizers, and anti-microbial additives to ensure ice retention, strength, and longevity of each cooler. The Taiga Terra has an organic, textured finish, specific to the use of hemp.

Sustainability in the Taiga Terra cooler is highlighted by the use of a plant-based polymer and underpinned in Taiga’s supply chain. From injection molding to foam insulation to assembly, Taiga Original coolers travel approximately 200 miles, all within Texas, to be made. The Taiga Terra coolers closely follow the same route with the exception of sourcing green materials from Colorado. The reduction of petroleum plastic usage in the Taiga Terra coolers reduces carbon emissions in Taiga’s manufacturing.

The true-to-size 27-quart Taiga Terra Cooler ($199 MSRP) is available for pre-order on taigacoolers.com on Oct. 6. Consumers can choose between four colors: granite white, fireside red, deep ocean blue, and sunset orange. Shipping will begin on Nov. 27, directly ahead of the holiday season.

About Taiga Coolers

Taiga Coolers first began as a small idea between two Texas outdoorsmen in search of a specialized, customizable cooler for their adventures in the rugged landscapes across the Lone Star State. Founders John Hohenshelt and Adam Artho focused on building a USA-made product that could offer durability, high-performance, and an inventive approach to personalization. After extensive research, rigorous testing, and innovating a patented process, the first hard-sided, insulated Taiga cooler was produced in Arlington, Texas in 2014. The veteran-owned brand has since expanded into producing the first sustainability-built, hard-sided cooler, the Taiga Terra. Taiga also offers soft-sided coolers, cooler accessories, drinkware, and gear all in a variety of appearances and customizable options with unlimited single, dual, and multi-color combinations.
