Tailwind Nutrition Partners with Friends of CAIC at Trailheads to Promote Winter Backcountry Safety

November 29, 2022

Durango, Colo. (Nov. 29, 2022) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Tailwind Nutrition, the leading provider of simple and complete sports nutrition products for athletes, has partnered with Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (FoCAIC) to support its Trailhead Outreach Program.

Throughout the 2022/2023 winter season, FoCAIC will visit backcountry trailheads throughout the state to provide avalanche information and education to backcountry users. Tailwind Nutrition will support the Trailhead Outreach Program by providing samples of its flagship Endurance Fuel drink mix to backcountry users.

“Tailwind is well-known in the spring and summertime endurance sports world, but our Colorado roots mean that we love to get out in the snow during the winter months too. We are excited to partner with the FoCAIC to spread the word about the importance of staying hydrated during backcountry activities and support avalanche safety,” said Jeff Vierling, Co-Founder at Tailwind.

Endurance Fuel is a drink mix that contains calories and electrolytes, has a clean, fresh taste and is easy on the stomach, making it the perfect product to fuel grueling skin track climbs and fun descents. Staying hydrated and maintaining caloric intake in the backcountry can help reduce fatigue, increase mental clarity, as well as help avoid negative reactions to altitude. The individual single serving packets make Endurance Fuel easy to stash in backpacks and pockets for easy access.

During the 2021/2022 season, FoCAIC hosted 79 Trailhead Days and engaged with 2,359 backcountry users and they aim to double that number this season after securing additional funding rewarding the initial success of the program. At the trailhead, FoCAIC staff distribute safety information, encourage the use of the CAIC website and mobile app, and answer questions about how to access the safety information generated by CAIC.

“Friends of CAIC’s Trailhead Outreach Program reaches backcountry users of all types and experience levels right before and after the day’s adventures. Our conversations focus on where to get the avalanche forecast, how to support it, and how to stay safe while recreating,” said Brian Rodine, FoCAIC’s Marketing and Events Director and Trailhead Program Manager. “Partners like Tailwind Nutrition allow us to facilitate these interactions by giving our team a great product to use in the backcountry and to hand out as conversation starters. We are truly thankful for their support of avalanche safety in Colorado.”

Endurance Fuel was Tailwind’s original product offering and is available in both regular and caffeinated flavors. Combining all your calories, electrolytes and hydration, Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel makes it easy to stay fueled and hydrated while out on the trails. Just pour, shake, and go! Manufactured in Durango at its new expanded facility, Endurance Fuel uses all natural ingredients, making it perfect for year-round activities no matter if you’re skiing, biking, running, or spending a day on the river.

About Friends of CAIC

The Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center is a 501(c)3 organization that was created to support the CAIC, while contributing to avalanche awareness and education throughout Colorado.
