Shaper Roy Quanstrom Crafts New Style with Routesetters at the Core

Lafayette, Colo (September 27th, 2022) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Trango Holds’ latest style of climbing holds, the Fuegos Calientes, crafted by shaper Roy Quanstrom allow setters to create routes that challenge any climber from beginner to advanced. With an idea that originally sparked at renowned shaper and Trango Director of Product Ty Foose’s shaping studio in Texas, Quanstrom has produced this style as a new tool for setters to incorporate effortlessly into their everyday sets.

The new style includes sets ranging from size 3-7 with the Fuego Caliente Mini Incuts, Incuts, Super Fuego Pinch, Ultimate Fuego Jug, and finally the Estupendo Fuego Slopers. The smallest style in the family are the size 3 Mini Incuts. Space-friendly for spray walls, the Mini Incuts are specifically designed for youth climbers or climbers with smaller hands. The largest of the new assortment are the Estupendo Fuego Slopers. The three massive pinch rails and slopers are the cherry on top and great for grappling in any terrain for any user.

“The vision for these holds was born at the 2021 Shaper’s Symposium outside of Hueco Tanks, TX in Ty Foose’s legendary shaping studio. The concept was well received and I was encouraged to dual-tex them right there in Ty’s studio, a big moment for me as someone who grew up inspired by Ty’s work,” said shaper Roy Quanstrom. “I think the strongest and most useful holds are the ones that can go from 5.10 to 5.14 with minimal changes. I thought about this every time I was in the studio. How can I make a line of holds where the setter doesn’t even need to think about the level?”

“My ambition is to instill confidence that the route will end up getting to where it needs to be, without having to make a complete overhaul of the work that’s put into it. With Fuegos Calientes family, I’m attempting to gain the trust of the route setter, both that they can present the challenge of pinching in their everyday sets without marginalizing a group of climbers, and that no matter what the holds, will be able to hit whatever difficulty the setting team needs it to be,” added Quanstrom.
