Collection Inspired by the Continental Divide Trail Uses New PrimaLoft® Black Insulation
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 14, 2018) – Big Agnes, the award-winning producer of tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads introduces 1101 Sleeping Bags, a new collection inspired by the Continental Divide Trail. The 1101 Collection features an exclusive use of 80% recycled PrimaLoft® Black Insulation Hi-loft Ultra, a new synthetic insulation designed with heat retention and compressibility in mind. A portion of proceeds from the 1101 Collection will benefit the Continental Divide Trail Coalition whose mission it is “to complete, promote and protect the CDT from Canada to Mexico.”
The 1101 Collection of sleeping bags was inspired by the rugged, scenic, and iconic Continental Divide Trail (CDT) – the 3,100-mile long trail from Canada to Mexico that traverses five states in the U.S. and tops out at over 14 thousand feet at its highest point. The 1101 trail is part of the CDT that winds through the mountains above Steamboat Springs, Colorado – home of Big Agnes. Each bag is named after a location on or near the 1101 trail: Dumont Lake, Newcomb Creek, Upper Slide Lake, Lake Katherine, and Lake Victoria.
“We’re excited to launch a series of bags inspired by such an incredible trail that’s right in our backyard,” said Bill Gamber, Big Agnes co-founder and president. “We’ve also adopted 75 miles of the CDT near Steamboat Springs to the Wyoming border. We’ll assist with the maintenance and protection of the area along with nonprofit partners. The donation to the CDTC is to further our support of a trail that is used by many of our employees, locals and Big Agnes users.”
“As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the designation of the CDT as a National Scenic Trail and the 50th Anniversary of the entire National Trails System, CDTC is thrilled to be working with Big Agnes in this innovative partnership,” said Teresa Martinez, Executive Director of CDTC. “The contributions from Big Agnes will help support trail stewardship and completion efforts trail wide but also serves as a model partnership that will be necessary as we move into the next era of the CDT’s development.”
The 1101 sleeping bags are designed to excel on the trail with exclusive use of highly compressible and warm PrimaLoft® Black Insulation Hi-loft Ultra, a synthetic insulation that uses a unique, accordion-like construction to deliver uncompromised loft, easy packing, and thermal efficiency. Construction along the top and side panels of these bags is designed to maintain the insulation’s vertical loft while keeping heat trapped against the body. Layered quilted insulation on the bottom of the bag is soft and resilient after sustained compression, whether backpacking for one night or camping for days.
All five bags in the 1101 collection are available exclusively at REI in 2018. The entire collection can be seen at bigagnes.com
