Eagle Creek Employee Named For Second Time to VF 100 For Volunteering

September 20, 2016

Eagle Creek is proud to announce that one of their own, Kristie Focht, has again been named to the VF 100 for her outstanding commitment to volunteering and fostering a love of service within the community.

The VF 100 award recognizes VF associates’ efforts to improve the communities in which they live and work. The award sets the gold standard for community service programs and recognizes the 100 associates out of 52,000 worldwide who accumulate the highest number of community service hours.  Recipients are honored with a donation of $1000 from the Corporation on their behalf to the qualified non-profit of their choice, and Focht has selected Urban Nature Partners PDX.

Focht planned and partiocipated in a weeklong volunteer project as part of her investment in Eagle Creek’s Live.Work.Travel.™ program, which encourages thoughtful service in the places associates live, work, and travel. Focht used this unique benefit to volunteer in Haiti with Feed One Haiti. She also spends her time volunteering with Tryon Creek Watershed Council, and recently started helping Urban Nature Partners PDX with their specific needs of strategic planning for long term expansion of their mentorship program.

I am so thankful I work for a company that recognizes the importance of volunteer work and encourages employees to make a difference in areas they are passionate about,” said Focht. “My passions are kids and the great outdoors, and I’m very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with all three of these amazing organizations this past year.”

Eagle Creek salutes Kristie Focht and all the other dedicated volunteers who work hard to make the world a better place.

ABOUT URBAN NATURE PARTNERS PDX

Urban Nature Partners PDX empowers youth from underserved neighborhoods through building long term mentoring relationships and providing access to meaningful outdoor experiences. Mentor-youth activities take place in easily accessible outdoor areas in and around Portland, are driven by the interests and abilities of each youth, and are relevant to a young person’s culture and background. Group events include their family members so everyone gets to enjoy all that our great urban greenspaces have to offer.

UNP-PDX incorporates the best practices of traditional mentoring in establishing meaningful, long-term relationships that help young people build confidence, resiliency, problem solving skills, social competency, and academic success, and help prevent problem behaviors. It also draws upon best practices in education and outdoor recreation by providing informal environmental learning through direct inquiry and experience, and building a sense of place through the exploration of one’s natural environment. Combining the best of these disciplines together in one program provides young people with a uniquely relevant and long term series of opportunities that build better health and well being, teach them about the outdoors and potential career opportunities, and help them become empowered to make their own decisions and succeed in other parts of their young lives.
