Fishpond Angles to Save the Colorado River

November 17, 2015

Denver (November 17, 2015) – For fly fishing brand fishpond, helping save and protect watersheds is just as important as making great gear for anglers. The brand has been a long-time supporter of non-profit Save the Colorado, and this year they have donated over $3,700 for the organization.

“As a Colorado company, we wanted to identify a local project that is meaningful to both the state and our business—Save the Colorado was a natural option,” says fishpond co-owner Ben Kurtz. “Through the sale of select apparel and hats, upwards of 10 percent of the sale price went directly towards Save the Upper Colorado project. These items featured unique artwork created by local artist Duke Beardsley, who is a longtime friend and passionate conservationist.

Fishpond’s Save the Colorado t-shirts are made in the USA and use 50 percent organic cotton and 50 percent recycled polyester with a water-based screen print for a soft hand. The hats use washed cotton twill in a ventilated mesh trucker style.

“The only voice rivers have is the voice we give them,” comments Gary Wockner, executive director for Save the Colorado. “Save the Colorado greatly appreciates the support from fishpond and its customers to aid our mission to protect and restore the Colorado River from the source to the sea. We are focused on proposed new dam projects in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah, and the funding from fishpond will assist our work as well as give the river a bigger voice in these fights on the ground, in the media, and eventually in the courtroom.”
