Metolius Withdraws From Outdoor Retailer

February 13, 2017

Bend, Ore. (February 13, 2017) – Metolius, a leading manufacturer and designer of innovative climbing gear, has announced they will not attend Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City in opposition to Utah’s campaign to rescind Bears Ears National Monument.

As an Outdoor Retailer Legacy Partner, Metolius has attended every Outdoor Retailer show since its inception. However, Metolius will stand with Patagonia and Arc’teryx and not attend or support the show until it has the backing of a new host state.

“Metolius Climbing was founded by climbers, for climbers, and places like the Bears Ears National Monument and the affected climbing areas of Indian Creek, Valley of the Gods, Arch Canyon, and Lockhart Basin, among others, are vital to our passion and livelihood,” says Chip Miller, global sales director for Metolius. “We look forward to rejoining Outdoor Retailer once a host state has been found that values our sport. We encourage other climbing companies to join us in protecting this precious and irreplaceable resource.”
