Mountain Hub App Goes Free for Professionals Courtesy of Black Diamond Equipment

May 8, 2017

Mountain Hub and Black Diamond partnership enables free access to individual professionals to help discover, experience and share real-time information in the outdoors.

SALT LAKE CITY, May 8, 2017 — Black Diamond Equipment®, a global innovator in climbing, skiing, mountain sports equipment and apparel, announces today the launch of its partnership with Mountain Hub, a crowd-sourced real-time network that helps professionals and public engage with the most important current conditions for any adventure. Beginning today, Black Diamond Equipment and Mountain Hub will take Mountain Hub Pro, the current paid platform for individual professionals and make it free to the global pro community.

“Our partnership with Mountain Hub represents an opportunity for Black Diamond to give back to professionals and build a stronger, safer, global mountain community,” explains Robert Fry, vice president of merchandising. “Communication is one of the most important tools you can bring into the outdoors and Mountain Hub is an indispensible tool for all the guides, educators, and mountain professionals that we serve.”

Mountain Hub is built upon the principle that communication of timely information can help avoid accidents. For the past three years, Mountain Hub has worked with professional organizations and individuals around the world to create a valuable mobile and web app that provides users with the ability to efficiently and accurately share real-time information that helps in risk management decisions. New for 2017, the platform has expanded to enable relevant information sharing year-round, suitable for both professionals and the greater public. For individual public use, Mountain Hub is a free subscription where anyone can view and contribute on the open and public observation-sharing platform. Mountain Hub Pro is a database limited to qualified professionals with additional sharing architecture and advanced features.

“At Mountain Hub our mission is to build a safer mountain community. The Mountain Hub platform provides an engaging network for people to discover, experience, and share real-time information in the outdoors. The global mountain community shares real-time geo-tagged observations and trip reports that not only help us as individuals, but also benefits non-profits like the Winter Wildlands Alliance and scientific research like NASA Community Snow Observations,” says Brint Markle, president of Mountain Hub. “And now, courtesy of Black Diamond Equipment, it’s easier for individual professionals around the world to benefit from the information contributed and shared on the Mountain Hub platform. This is a win-win for the entire mountain community!”
