Oru Kayak Launches Limited Edition Tree Print Kayak

June 20, 2017

Oru joins “Kickstarter Gold” and pledges 1% of sales to benefit water conservation efforts

San Francisco, CA (June 20, 2017) — Oru Kayak, makers of the original origami-inspired folding kayak, will be back on Kickstarter for the third time with a limited edition tree print kayak, demonstrating Oru’s commitment to clean water and a healthy planet. For all limited edition boats sold, Oru will contribute one percent of sales to 1% For The Planet, a non-profit organization that connects businesses with initiatives around climate, food, land, pollution, water, and wildlife.

Oru’s story began on Kickstarter in 2012 with the unveiling of the world’s first origami kayak: the Bay ST. Since then, Oru has continued to improve their foldable kayak designs, making them easier to assemble, more comfortable to use, and more maneuverable on the water. Returning to Kickstarter for a limited time—as part of the ‘Kickstarter Gold’ initiative—Oru will feature a new redesigned Bay ST with custom tree print designs on the floorboards and the bow of the boat.

“At the heart of Oru is our love of the outdoors and our desire to connect more people to water in a meaningful way.” says Oru Chief Design Officer, Anton Willis. “We chose to join 1% For The Planet because of our belief that a healthy planet will allow our community to continue to appreciate the rivers, lakes, and oceans that have a profound impact on us.”

Kickstarter Gold is a limited time initiative in which Kickstarter has invited select brands to return to the popular crowdfunding site in a move to celebrate some of the most beloved brands and creators since the platform’s inception eight years ago.
