July 11, 2017

South foyer space provides hands-on area for live advocacy action and public lands education

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – (July 11, 2017) – Outdoor Retailer, in partnership with Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) is pleased to announce a new Public Lands Action Center at this year’s Summer Market, July 26–29, 2017. The 1,500-square-foot space, donated by Outdoor Retailer, will be located in the south foyer of the Salt Palace Convention Center. The Public Lands Action Center provides a convenient resource area for live advocacy action and education on public lands and waters issues facing the industry.

“The Public Lands Action Center gives show attendees the opportunity to actively engage in important public lands discussions taking place across the country and to learn more about recreational topics that impact them personally and professionally,” said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer show director. “Our industry is passionate about protecting and promoting public lands that are integral to our community. The Public Lands Action Center brings together a broad selection of national nonprofits and experts who will share best advocacy practices.”

Public lands programming will be presented in the Public Lands Action Center during show hours the first three days of the show with presentations, as well as digitally through iPad engagement on the new OIA online Advocacy Center. Programmed sessions will take place each day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with a daily happy hour at 4:30 p.m. Advocacy presentations on day one will focus on water issues with day two exploring public lands and day three addressing climate policy and equity.

“Our goal is to have hundreds of industry professionals stop by the Public Lands Action Center to learn about relevant recreation issues and programs relating to land, water and climate across the country,” said Jessica Wahl, government affairs manager for the Outdoor Industry Association. “There will be an important networking aspect, so show attendees with similar concerns or interests can connect directly with the nonprofits to learn how to get involved and to advocate for those issues, both at the show and beyond. This is a truly unique OR show experience that should not be missed!”
