Primus ‘Service For a Reason’ Program Offers Free Parts for Backpacking Stove Maintenance

January 25, 2022

Swedish cooking equipment brand brings back sustainability initiative for second year to keep stoves in the field and out of the landfill

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (Jan. 25, 2022) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – For the second year running, Primus announces the return of the Service For a Reason initiative to provide free repair parts for select Primus backpacking stoves. Following a successful campaign launched in Spring 2021, Primus aims to continue growing the culture of repairing gear in the outdoor industry rather than replacing it with new. The initiative will run from February 1 through March 31 and customers can request free parts for most Primus backpacking and multi-fuel stoves at https://primus.us/pages/service-for-a-reason.

“One very clear observation that we made in the past year is that the appetite for spending time outdoors is not slowing down,” says Becky Day, marketing manager for Primus. “With that comes the need for people to keep their gear running in top shape so they can rely on it when they set out on their next adventure. We have prioritized serviceability in our design process for more than a century, allowing our users to easily repair their stoves when needed. This not only allows our stoves to become lifelong companions, but it’s also a better approach to sustainability.”

In 2021, Primus delivered over 150 parts to customers, effectively keeping those stoves in operation and out of the landfill. Primus hopes to hear from more users this year by promoting the campaign more extensively through social media channels and expanding customer touch points to give more people the opportunity to repair and tune up their stoves.

“We were excited to see our customers inquiring about replacement parts for their stoves last year and viewed the initial campaign as a win,” says Day. “By providing more ways for people to learn about Service For a Reason and how they can utilize the opportunity to fix up their trusted cooking companion, we anticipate growing the number of requests received to keep more stoves in the field for a long life of adventures.”

As the pandemic continues to present inventory challenges, the opportunity to repair gear that is already owned is a way to avoid running into availability issues and provides a sustainable solution to careless waste. With this in mind, Primus is calling on all outdoor adventurers who own one of its stoves to take advantage of this pre-season campaign to clean and test their stoves, get advice and secure free parts to repair their stoves themselves if needed.

Service For a Reason is geared toward backpacking and multi-fuel stove collections in the Primus family including all current models. Primus will provide free replacement parts through March 31 for all eligible stove models.
