Snowsports Industries America and Outdoor Industry Association Announce Outdoor + Snow Show Kickoff Breakfast Keynote: Business As A Force for (Climate) Good

January 21, 2020

This year’s breakfast keynote builds on the announcement made by the three associations at the 2019 Kickoff Breakfast, aligning the three organizations under the Outdoor Business Climate Partnership, focusing on the impact of the outdoor business sector on climate action.

PARK CITY, UT (January 21, 2020). Today, Snowsports Industries America (SIA) announced the details for the Outdoor + Snow Show Kickoff Breakfast keynote, marking the opening of the 2020 trade show, taking place at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO on Wednesday, January 29th.

Alongside the Outdoor Industry Association and the National Ski Areas Association, the three trade associations representing the $887 billion outdoor industry will further solidify their commitment to addressing climate change by hosting a discussion titled: “Business As A Force For (Climate) Good.”

This year’s breakfast keynote builds on the announcement made by the three associations at the 2019 Kickoff Breakfast, aligning the three organizations under the Outdoor Business Climate Partnership, focusing on the impact of the outdoor business sector on climate action.

With the latest UN climate report clearly stating that “deeper and faster emissions cuts are now required” to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, it’s clear that as an industry with so much at stake, and in the absence of a meaningful federal climate policy, the $887 billion outdoor industry has to act ambitiously now, with our courageous business leaders leveraging their platform to drive change.

“Businesses who fail to address the climate crisis are going to be increasingly out of step with their customers and the next generation. The real-world implications of failing to address climate change will impact us all,” said The North Face’s Tim Bantle. “Our only chance of combating climate change is for businesses, consumers, governments, everyone – coming together and prioritizing environmental action.”

At this year’s Kickoff Breakfast, a group of executives who are exhibiting this bold leadership will discuss their commitment to lead on climate change and to outline achievable strategies that every business can act on right now. Moderated by Kate Williams, CEO of One Percent For The Planet, the panelists include:

  •    Tim Bantle, Global General Manager for the lifestyle business unit at The North Face
  •    Nancy Hirshberg, Founder at Hirshberg Strategic, formerly of Stonyfield Farm
  •    Ben Stuart, Chief Marketing Officer, Bank of the West
  •    Tyler Lamotte, Brand Director, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

“Climate change is an issue that’s already impacting our industry, and it’s time that our industry comes together on solutions that reduce emissions to meet the science-based targets,” said SIA’s president, Nick Sargent. “We’re excited to be working together with OIA and NSAA to address climate change – and the discussion at the Kickoff Breakfast will continue to stress the urgency and lay out a path forward to meet those goals, and protect what we all hold so dear.”

“We know that having a measurable and meaningful impact will require bold leadership and action by every business, individual and government,” says Nora Stowell, OIA Board Chair and Fabric Sales and Marketing Divisional Leader at W.L. Gore and Associates. “That’s why we are mobilizing an industry collaborative on climate that will give our members the guidance, tools, trainings, and community they need to measure and reduce their carbon footprints. We are excited to introduce the program and its mission at the Industry Kickoff Breakfast.”

The Outdoor + Snow Show Kickoff Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, January 29th at 7:15 a.m. Room 401, Colorado Convention Center. To schedule media appointments, please contact Eric Henderson, SIA PR at ehenderson@meteoritepr.com.
