Sweet’s All-Mountain Switcher MIPS Wins Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year

October 8, 2018

Outside’s test team calls it simultaneously the warmest, best-ventilated, and most comfortable ski helmet they’ve ever worn.

(Broomfield, CO) Award season has been good to Sweet Protection’s Switcher MIPS, a revolutionary new helmet with 22 vents, adjustable by a simple twist of a glove-ready dial. The lid’s most recent accolade is the prestigious Gear of the Year award from the powder-fiends at Outside Magazine.

“Accommodating a wide range of head sizes and handling temperature swings with aplomb, the Switcher ticked all the most important boxes for a stalwart lid – including MIPS construction, to help reduce rotational forces in the event of a crash,” says the editorial crew, lead by Will Egensteiner.

Their team of more than a dozen testers also praised the Switcher’s fit – nary a pressure point for anyone – and its versatility. Open vents cooled noggins during 50-degree corn harvests, and closed vents enabled those same domes to stay warm when the wind chill pushed bone-snapping digits in the Cascades. To top it off, male and female testers alike had high praise for the fit, features, and functionality. “This isn’t shrinked and pinked,” said one female tester.

“We are beyond stoked,” says Christian Erga, Sweet Protection’s Head of Marketing, “Huge thanks to Outside Magazine for honoring our efforts to make the pursuits we love as safe as possible. We are so proud to be recognized as an innovator for – and protector of – core skiers and snowboarders worldwide.”

Sweet Protection is still in its infancy in the US, but these brain-bucket savants have somewhat quietly established themselves as the benchmark in helmet technology since late 90’s and continue to see a global increase in the demand for their eminently tough, ergonomic, and progressive designs.

With a proud shelf of awards from the likes of Freeskier Magazine, Backcountry Magazine, and SKI Magazine, Sweet Protection Switcher helmets are ready to make a huge impact this ski season.
