TREW Debuts Technical Outerwear Collection for Spring Backcountry Touring

March 30, 2023

The LW 3L Collection is the first product from the TREW Experimental Division

PORTLAND, OR/OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Launching in sync with the spring equinox, TREW’s LW 3L collection is the perfect uniform for spring backcountry touring adventures. The lightweight outerwear capsule, featuring Le Skieur LW Anorak and the LW Bib, was created in collaboration with Swiss professional mountain guide Gilles Sierro. This collection is the first product release from the TREW Gear Experimental Division, a new business unit conceptualized to showcase innovation and push the boundaries of possibility.

“TREW has always been obsessed with finding and developing the best materials for the occasion. We created the TREW Gear Experimental Division to cast away commercial restraints and work with our athletes to deliver the most focused and innovative product possible for life in the mountains. Launching snow outerwear in spring may be unconventional, but a spring-specific touring kit is what our skiers requested. We couldn’t be more excited to enjoy the next few months at high altitude,” explains Chris Pew, founder of TREW.

TREW ambassador Gilles Sierro spends over 125 days per year guiding and dialing in his backcountry system. Sierro defines style as the ability to flow intuitively through the terrain, gliding uphill, flowing through the transitions, and finding a fluid line on the descent. The LW 3L collection is designed to move quickly through the mountains without distraction, supporting the pursuit of fluid style. Technical features including pockets and vents are optimized to work seamlessly with a backpack, climbing harness, radio, and other alpine gear. The new 3L7D fabric is durable and lightweight with a 20k waterproof rating and 30k breathability rating. With a minimalist design, the Le Skieur Anorak looks as good roped in on a summit as on a rainy night in the city.

Le Skieur LW Anorak ($499)

Colorways: Anthracite/Alpine Moss & Anthracite/Purps

Le Skieur Anorak is the product of a two-year collaboration with Swiss Mountain Guide, Gilles Sierro, and the TREW Experimental Division. The prompt was to reimagine an ultralight touring shell to Gilles’ specifications.

After being in the mountains with Gilles, we learned that Style is the culmination of technical skill and years of experience. To move effortlessly through the mountains – gliding uphill, flowing through transitions, and riding your line with fluidity – is every backcountry skier’s goal, and, when realized, is truly good style. Le Skieur Anorak embodies this idea of style.

The LW Bib ($519)

Colorways: Anthracite & Alpine Moss

Backcountry skiers and snowboarders of the PNW are blessed with access to great spring skiing. From April to July, the volcanoes in the central cascades provide long, consistently pitched, sun-baked descents. Our prompt was to create the perfect bib for these late-spring missions.

To pull off the perfect combination of lightweight minimalism and rugged durability, we used two new hardshell fabrications: the 3L7D ultralight, waterproof shell and Vectran(R) reinforced instep protection.

Featuring an adjustable cuff with Fidlock magnetic closures, the LW Bib can be tightened around your boots while you’re climbing and then relaxed for a more comfortable downhill fit. The storage options are minimalist: the bib upper features two options for your transceiver and the hand pockets are positioned to fit with a harness. Outseam vents allow for maximum airflow and the ability to remove layers while still wearing your boots.

  • Articulated legs for exaggerated range of motion
  • Large outseam vents
  • Stretch-woven bib upper
  • Left and right-side abdomen transceiver pockets with D-Ring
  • Fidlock® adjustable magnetic closures at boot cuff
  • Vectran® liquid crystal polymer reinforcement at instep
  • 3L7D: Ultralight 3L fabrication
    • 20k wp / 30k breathable
    • Durable ripstop nylon shell
    • Highly breathable membrane
    • 7d circular knit backing
